$1M bail set in Texarkana square dancer death

TEXARKANA (AP) - A judge has set bail at $1 million for a 65-year-old Texarkana woman accused in the shooting death of a fellow member of a local square dancing club.

Virginia Ann Hyatt has pleaded not guilty to capital murder in the fatal shooting of 59-year-old Patricia Wheelington in December. According to an affidavit, Wheelington was shot to death while sitting on her front porch.

The Texarkana Gazette reports ( ) that Miller County Circuit Judge Joe Griffin set the amount at a pretrial hearing Tuesday after telling the court that the case is "the most serious crime in the state of Arkansas."

Both women were members of the Guys and Dolls Square Dancing Club. Court records allege that Hyatt was "harassing" Wheelington over Wheelington's relationship with Hyatt's estranged husband.
