STUTTGART, Ark. (AP) - The Arkansas Department of Human Services is investigating the circumstances of a child's death in Stuttgart.
The agency said Monday that a 5-year-old died on Sept. 30 after developing trouble breathing.
A police officer noted that the child appeared to be malnourished and that his ribs were visible. The child was wearing dirty clothes and had an extremely soiled diaper.
The officer notified the Child Abuse Hotline to alert DHS.
No arrests had been made as of Monday but the investigation is continuing.Copyright 2013 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten or redistributed.
