LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Attorney General Dustin McDaniel's office says a county judge doesn't have the authority to block enforcement of the state's voter ID law since his ruling is being appealed to the state Supreme Court.
McDaniel on Tuesday asked Pulaski County Circuit Judge Tim Fox to deny the motion to lift the stay on his decision against the state's voter ID law. The ACLU has asked Fox to lift his stay, saying that more than 1,000 voters were disenfranchised because of the requirement to show photo ID before casting a ballot.
Fox in May found the law unconstitutional but suspended his order, allowing the law to remain in place for the May 20 primary and June 10 primary runoff. McDaniel has appealed Fox's ruling to the state Supreme Court.Copyright 2014 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten or redistributed.
