Alleged Copper Thief Injured, Causes Outage

Hot Springs police say a man who was allegedly trying to steal copper wire from an electrical junction box was severely injured on Thanksgiving day.

Police say they responded about Noon last Thursday to reports of a loud explosion and fire. When they arrived at the scene, a fire was burning at an Entergy junction box, but the victim/suspect was nowhere to be found.

Police later located a white male with severe burns to his face and hands. The man's name has not been released.

Police say the man was transported to a hospital in Little Rock, where his condition is unknown.

The fire caused a power outage in downtown Hot Springs for several hours.
