Amazon founder, CEO donates $2.5M to same-sex marriage org

SEATTLE (CNN) - With a $2.5 million donation, Amazon's founder and CEO is backing same sex-marriage.

Jeff Bezos and his wife announced the donation for the issue they say they feel strongly about.
Their contribution is believed to be the largest individual donation to protect same-sex marriage.

The money is going to Washington United for Marriage - a coalition working to uphold that state's same-sex marriage law. You may remember, the measure passed in the legislature earlier this year but it could be overturned when it goes up for a vote in November.

Washington United for Marriage says Bezos' donation doubles the organization's funds. The Amazon founder's donation follows a same-sex marriage campaign launched earlier this month by Google.

It also comes on the heels of Chick-fil-A President Dan Cathy re-iterating his stance against same-sex marriage. Mayors in Chicago and Boston as well as Republican Senator Scott Brown are among those who have come out against the comments.

Chick-fil-A says it doesn't discriminate. In a statement, it said it would treat every person with dignity and respect -- regardless of their belief, race, creed, sexual orientation or gender.
