LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Authorities say a 911 operator who has been placed on paid administrative leave did not enter a call into a Little Rock computer system that would have notified police and fire dispatchers of a mother and son trapped inside a vehicle in a pond.
The mother, 39-year-old Jinglei Yi, died Monday morning after calling for help. Her 5-year-old son was hospitalized.
Laura Martin, who directs the city police and fire departments' communications branch, said Wednesday that the incident remains under investigation.
The operator received a transferred call from Yi and a county dispatcher Monday. An ambulance was dispatched a few minutes later. However, authorities say police officers and firefighters weren't dispatched until about a half-hour later - after the ambulance service called to verify that the department was en route.Copyright 2013 The Associated Press.
