Ark. Children's Hospital gets $3.5M research grant
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Arkansas Children's Hospital is getting a $3.5 million grant to perform research into birth defects.
The hospital announced Thursday that the money from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will enable the hospital to take part in a wide-ranging study. Researchers are exploring how a mother's exposure to medications and diseases may increase the risks for having a baby with birth defects.
Conditions, such as diabetes and obesity, are to be examined as part of the study.
The Arkansas Children's Hospital Research Institute will receive the funds over five years. Five other centers around the country are also receiving funds to take part in the study.Copyright 2013 The Associated Press. All rights reserved.
