Arkansas governor to address sheriffs' meeting

NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Arkansas Gov. Mike Beebe is scheduled to speak to a group of county sheriffs as he prepares for a legislative session where he's seeking more money for state and local prisons.

Beebe will address the Arkansas Sheriffs' Association at the group's winter meeting Tuesday in North Little Rock.

Beebe's speech comes less than two weeks before the start of this year's legislative session, which is focused on the state's budget. The governor is seeking additional funding for the prison system to address crowding as a result of the state overhauling its probation policies.

Beebe has said the state budget would face a sizable cut if lawmakers don't reauthorize the state's "private option" Medicaid expansion.
