GILLETTE (KATV)-The annual Coon Supper Saturday, an Arkansas tradition for many, was flanked with political figures vying for their seats in the 2014 elections.
Gov. Mike Beebe spoke at the event, along with Democratic Sen. Mark Pryor and his challenger in the senate race, Republican Congressman Tom Cotton. Democratic gubernatorial candidate Mike Ross was in attendance as was Republican gubernatorial candidate Asa Hutchinson. All were there to sample the coon and campaign to a concentrated group of voters.
The Coon Supper has become a ride of passage for those seeking political office in Arkansas.
Former Congressman Marion Berry told Channel 7 News that he went to his first Coon Supper in 1957.
"It's better to be here than to not be here," Berry said.
