PARAGOULD, Ark. (AP) - The Greene County judge says an Arkansas sheriff has received the keys to a new jail facility.
The Paragould Daily Press reports (http://bit.ly/1vDNrfX ) the new 75,000-square-foot jail is set to house nearly 500 inmates. It's located right behind the existing jail expected to be renovated for administrative purposes. Greene County Judge Jerry Shipman says sheriff Dan Langston received the keys Monday morning.
Langston says authorities will start transferring inmates a few at a time next week. He says officers will need to sweep the facility to check for leftover construction material.
Voters in Greene County passed a sales tax increase in November 2012 to help pay for the jail's construction.
