LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - The Arkansas State Fair is putting up strong attendance figures in its opening weekend.
Fair director Ralph Shoptaw says the fair drew 119,116 patrons on Friday and Saturday, close to 20,000 better than the first two days in 2012.
The fair is using a new barcode system for tickets and passes this year. Shoptaw says the barcodes will discourage attempts to counterfeit tickets.
The fair set its record for attendance in 2010, when 472,196 patrons went through the gates over the 10-day run. Last year, the fair drew 447,710 people.
Shoptaw says the attendance is important because it determines the budget for next year's fair.
This year's edition runs through Oct. 20.Copyright 2013 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten or redistributed.
