Arkansas veterans hoping to see DC memorials

A group of Arkansas veterans are scheduled go to DC Saturday on an Honor Flight which flies older veterans and those gravely ill to visit the memorials... perhaps for their only time.

But those memorials are shutdown.

So the Republican National Committee is offering to pay to keep one of the memorials open.

World War II veterans stormed a fence at the memorial Tuesday. The fence was erected to keep visitors out.

"I'm a marine," said Robert White. "We'd have gotten in here one way or the other."

"We got through," said Buddy Schmidt an Army veteran. "We were determined to go through one way or the other."

But not everyone is happy with the RNC's offer. The Democratic National Committee calls it a "stunt".
