Arkansas woman recovering from fraternity accident

JONESBORO, Ark. (AP) - An 18-year-old Arkansas State University student is recovering after she was impaled in the neck with a golf club during a freak accident at a fraternity house.

The Jonesboro Sun reports (http://bit.ly/1oH2yvY ) Natalie Jo Eaton was upgraded from critical to serious condition Wednesday. She has been at the Regional Medical Center at Memphis since the Aug. 19 accident.

Eaton was hit in the neck at the university's Kappa Alpha fraternity house. Witnesses say a 19-year-old fraternity member was using the club like a baseball bat to hit a football when it splintered. It traveled 30 feet before impaling Eaton. A sharp fragment struck part of her spine and nicked an artery.

      No charges have been reported.

The newspaper reports a law firm representing Eaton didn't return a request for comment.
