PARAGOULD, Ark. (AP) - Arkansas State Police say Paragould police officers shot and killed a man wielding a butcher knife.
State police say officers were called to a disturbance Thursday night at an apartment in Paragould. State police spokesman Bill Sadler says that officers were met by a man holding a butcher knife.
Sadler says police opened fire when the man refused to drop the knife and came toward the officers.
State police identified the man as 37-year-old Timmy Dewayne Myrick. Paragould police say he was pronounced dead at the scene by the Greene County coroner.
Special agents with Arkansas State Police are investigating the fatal shooting and will forward their findings to prosecutors.Copyright 2013 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten or redistributed.
