Beebe: Congress needs to work together after fight

LITTLE ROCK (AP) - Arkansas Gov. Mike Beebe says Congress has a chance to "act like adults" and work together on lowering the deficit now that the federal government has been reopened and the nation's borrowing limit raised.

Beebe told reporters Thursday that the last-minute deal approved by the House and Senate and signed by President Barack Obama gives lawmakers a reprieve to address the deficit. Beebe told reporters that he has been as disgusted with Congress as he believes most Arkansans are over the shutdown that began Oct. 1.

Arkansas' four congressmen and two senators voted for the deal Wednesday night that re-opened the government and averted a default.

Hundreds of state workers whose positions are funded by the federal government were furloughed because of the shutdown.
