LITTLE ROCK (AP) - Gov. Mike Beebe says a conservative group is "trashing" Arkansas by airing a television ad that claims high taxes and government debt are driving people out of the state.
Beebe on Tuesday criticized the television spots being aired by Americans for Prosperity and accused the group of misleading voters on the state's accomplishments. The Democratic governor told reporters he believes the ads are insulting the state more than his policies.
The 30-second television ad says that many are leaving the state to seek opportunities elsewhere because of a high cost of living. The spot doesn't mention Beebe or any legislative candidates.
AFP's state director said the ad began airing over the weekend as part of a $175,000 buy in the 1st, 2nd and 4th congressional districts.
