Beebe: 'Tornado may be one of the strongest we have seen'

VILONIA, Ark. (AP) - Arkansas Governor Mike Beebe says the tornado that roared through suburban Little Rock Sunday night may be one of the strongest the state has seen in a long time.

The twister has killed at least 16 people and Beebe says there isn't an exact count yet on how many people have been hurt or may be missing. Crews are searching in Mayflower and Vilonia.

Vilonia Mayor James Firestone has told ABC the storm was much stronger than an EF-2 tornado that killed four people in 2011.

State emergency officials say the dead include eight adults and two children in Faulkner County, five people in Pulaski County and one in White County.

President Obama has telephoned Beebe to see if other federal resources are needed. He is sending FEMA Director Craig Fugate to Arkansas.
