BENTONVILLE (AP) - County officials have declared an emergency in Benton County after heavy rains caused widespread flash flooding.
County Judge Robert Clinard made the declaration after heavy downpours late Wednesday and early Thursday. Portions of the county received 4 to 5 inches of rain overnight, which caused flash flooding and led to the closure of more than 50 roads.
The disaster declaration allows the county to seek outside funding in its response to the flooding. Benton County officials say surveys are being conducted to determine the extent of the damage.
The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning until 7 p.m. Thursday for the area.Copyright 2013 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten or redistributed.
