Benton PD welcomes, names new police dog

Benton police officially welcomed a new member to their family Friday.

{}The 18-month-old Belgian/Shepard mix has actually been with the Department a short while, but, was officially named Ares. That's thanks to Benton Middle School 6th grader Emilee Millerd, who won an essay naming contest. Ares and handler, Officer Hunter Begoon, just finished training at the Little Rock{}K9 Academy.

{}"He is really calm and laid back but when it is time to work it's like Dr. Jeckel and Mr. Hyde. He really turns on the energy to work," said Tony Smith, who runs the Academy.

{}Retired Benton police dog, Rudy, died last July.
