      Benton Police offer warrant amnesty

BENTON (KATV) - Police are offering warrant amnesty through the end of the year.

Anyone with a warrant out for their arrest on a non-violent charge can go to the police department, pay a warrant fee and immediately receive a court date. Anyone with a warrant for failure to appear will also have their driver's license suspended but while there, you can also begin the process of getting your license re-instated.

Using this amnesty period could help avoid additional fees such as having your vehicle impounded if you were to be arrested during a traffic stop. It also helps avoid a potentially embarrassing situation of being arrested in front of family, friends or at work during the holidays.

Amnesty ends December 31. Starting January 1, anyone with a warrant will once again face jail time when caught, regardless of if you face a violent or non-violent charge.

Anyone with information about someone with a warrant is encouraged to contact the Benton Police Department at (501) 778-1171 or 315-TIPS. Individuals also may send an anonymous tip to CRIMES (274637) with the keyword BNPD in the body of the text.
