Benton police warn of possible police impersonator

BENTON - Police are warning of a possible police impersonator after a Benton resident was pulled over Sunday by a dark colored car with a blue light.

The person who was pulled over told police the car appeared to be an older "undercover" police car.

A white male, approximately 30 years old, made contact with the driver and asked for identification and registration. When the man did not identify himself or why the stop was made, the driver drove off. The car did not follow.

Police say if you are unsure if it's an actual police officer pulling you over, call 911, and the dispatcher can quickly tell you if it's an actual officer stopping you. If you don't have a phone, proceed slowly to the nearest populated area, such as a gas station or grocery store.
