ATKINS, Ark. (AP) - Authorities are investigating after a man's body was discovered in the Arkansas River in Pope County over the weekend.
Pope County Sheriff Aaron Duvall says the body was found in the river Saturday near the Sweeden Island Park area. Duvall tells The Courier (http://bit.ly/1o0uz1z ) that there was no identification on the body, but authorities did recover a pair of blue jeans and a cell phone.
Duvall says the body will be sent to the Arkansas medical examiner's office in Little Rock for identification. But the sheriff says there's no indication that the body belongs to Michael Shane Caldwell, who's been missing since a Jan. 12 traffic stop and was last seen trying to swim away from Arkansas State Police in the Arkansas River.
