An arrest for carrying a weapon turns deadly for a Bryant man in an officer involved shooting Saturday in Alexander.
Arkansas State Police are investigating the death of 30-year-old Carleton J. Wallace of Bryant, who was shot by Alexander police officer Nancy Cummings when her gun discharged, according to an ASP report.
Cummings' account said she noticed Wallace walking along Brookwood Road Saturday afternoon carrying a pistol tucked in the waistband of his pants.
Next, Cummings said Wallace threw the gun into a wooded area near the road.
Cummings had her weapon drawn while placing Wallace under arrest and searching for other weapons,. It was then that Cummings claims her gun accidentally discharged and struck the man.
Wallace was transported to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The body of Wallace along with evidence collected from the scene has been turned over to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory for further analysis.
Cummings remains on administrative leave according to Alexander Police Department.
