      Charges filed against Ark. man who struck cyclists

      McCRORY (AP) - A driver who struck and injured a group of bicyclists traveling through Arkansas on a cross-country trip is facing a negligent homicide charge after 1 of the cyclists died last month.

      Prosecutors filed paperwork on Friday charging 21-year-old Teagan Ross Martin of Newport with negligent homicide in the death of 18-year-old Merritt Levitan, of Milton, Mass.

      Levitan died from her injuries following the July 2 crash near McCrory. Several others were hurt.

      Martin also faces one count of careless and prohibited driving and a number of counts related to overtaking a bicycle.

      Martin's lawyers didn't immediately return a phone message left Friday.

      Levitan was 1 of 13 cyclists traveling from Charleston, S.C., to Santa Monica, Calif., as part of a six-week trip organized by a Williamstown, Mass.-based company called Overland.
