SALINE COUNTY (KATV) - A Saline County community came together Thursday night to raise money for 12-year-old Kali Hardig, the Benton girl who is now recovering from a rare case of parasitic meningitis.
Kali's one of the few people to beat this often fatal disease but like many other people this victory comes with medical bills. Dozens of her hometown family and friends gathered Denton Trotline to help take care of that.
Over good music and food, people came out and enjoyed themselves for a good cause. The reason: Twelve-year-old Kali Hardig.
Dozens came out and to show support for the family. Shelli Russell, of Mysaline.com, helped come up with the fundraiser. She says the last thing the family needs to worry about is paying medical bills.
Kali's cousin was in attendance, representing the family. She said it helps them focus on Kali's recovery. But it's still hard for her to believe that strangers would care so much about her little cousin.
Russell says they were able to raise over $800 with Thursday night's fundraiser.
