Concerns of Deaf Community Being Heard
LITTLE ROCK —
A legislative committee meeting over a controversial hire wasn't enough to satisfy people upset over a recent state hire by Arkansas Rehabilitation Services.
A meeting between State Workforce Director Bill Walker and prominent members of Arkansas' deaf community is taking place. Many are concerned about the hiring of a sign language interpreter by the state.
The new hire lacks national certification...or any other certification...and other candidates with such qualifications were passed over. Now the tuition is being paid for the chosen candidate to take a sign language course at U.A.L.R.
