Conway Junior High placed on lockdown Friday morning

CONWAY (KATV) - Conway Junior High was briefly placed on Level 2 lockdown Friday morning after a man tried to get into the school.

Police spokesperson LaTresha Woodruff said students saw a man they described as white wearing a camouflage jacket with a backpack try to open several locked doors on the Duncan Street side of the school just after 10:00 a.m.

"He apparently pulled on the doors and he could see three girls inside," Woodruff said. "He said to open the door, but the students left the area and told a coach."

Woodruff said police were told the person fitting the description was seen leaving the campus on foot, and the same person was last seen near the corner of Tyler Street and Donaghey Avenue.

"They're still checking the area to try to see if they can locate this person to see what, if any business this person had at the school," Woodruff said. "Officers are confident this person is no longer on campus."

Woodruff said Level 2 lockdown means no one is allowed in or out of the school, and all doors are locked.
