Conway man pleads to manslaughter in shooting of 2
CONWAY, Ark. (AP) - A man accused in a Conway shooting in which a man was killed and a woman was wounded has pleaded guilty to a manslaughter and battery charges.
Authorities say 58-year-old Andrew Judd Elrod is to serve a 10-year prison sentence for the December shootings.
The Log Cabin Democrat reports (http://is.gd/7Zy3Jv ) Elrod was originally charged with first-degree murder for the shooting death of 39-year-old Charles Hooten. Elrod was also charged with shooting Hooten's fiancée, 47-year-old Debbie Ford, which drew the battery charge.
Hooten was dead at the scene and Ford was flown to a hospital for treatment. She underwent multiple rehabilitation stints. Ford went to a Conway hospital emergency room on July 7, where she died.
An autopsy was ordered but the results weren't entered into the court record.
