BONANZA (AP) - Authorities in Sebastian County are investigating an influx of counterfeit money that has been passed in stores in Bonanza and Hackett.
Deputies on Monday said fake $20 bills were found in the tills at the Mitchell Country Store in Bonanza. In Hackett, a Dollar General and the Hugs and Biscuit Convenience Store were victims.
Officials say the fake bills were passed over the weekend.
The sheriff's office says the phony currency appears to be printed from $20 bills that were scanned into a computer. All of the bills have the same serial number and are thicker and heavier than a normal bill.
The sheriff's office says merchants should be on guard against currency that doesn't look or feel right.Copyright 2013 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten or redistributed.
