Court upholds Newport man's murder conviction
NEWPORT, Ark. (AP) - The Arkansas Supreme Court has upheld the murder conviction of a Newport man in the death of his 23-month-old son.
The Jonesboro Sun reported Monday that the court rejected a claim by 25-year-old Richard Ingram that a juror was removed from the case without justification.
The state Supreme Court instead found there was "a clear justification" for removal because the juror violated the judge's order not to speak with any of the attorneys, parties or witnesses in the case about anything. The juror was later seen during the trial talking with three witnesses and with a relative of Ingram.
Ingram was convicted of capital murder and sentenced to life in prison without parole for the 2010 death of Damarrius Thomas.
