Crawford, Ellington run for Ark. 1st District seat

JONESBORO, Ark. (AP) - The big issue in the 1st District race for Congress is which candidate will do the most for east Arkansas farmers.

First-term Republican U.S. Rep. Rick Crawford says he's devoted himself to agriculture issues in his time in office. But Democratic Challenger Scott Ellington argues that the failure by the Republican-dominated House to pass a farm bill hurts Crawford's ability to show his effectiveness.

Democrats hope Ellington can unseat Crawford so the state has at least one Democrat in the House. But Ellington, a prosecutor, hasn't been able to come close to Crawford in fundraising.

Ellington has raised $324,000, about one-fourth of Crawford's war chest of $1.2 million.
