Day 6 manhunt continues for escaped murderer
PINE BLUFF (KATV) - The search is still on for an escaped murderer who left almost one week ago. Timothy Buffington, 47, escaped from the Pine Bluff unit Saturday and there are still few clues on where he could be.
A possible sighting of Buffington may have happened in Mississippi where a report came in that he was spotted in a car.
An ABC station in Greenville reported that it was a 1990s model Buick LeSabre with Arkansas plates, but the Arkansas Department of Correction cannot confirm that Buffington is involved.
"We're continuing to search, we are maintaining checkpoints, we have people out visiting with people going door to door still just making sure everyone is safe and secure in their home," said Shea Wilson, Arkansas Department of Corrections Spokesperson.
The latest tip authorities received comes from Mississippi.
"We have no information to indicate that he has taken a vehicle or any information that he has been seen in a vehicle, so we really can't confirm anything to do with him being in a vehicle," said Wilson.
Meanwhile, the search goes on in the Princeton Pike area in Pine Bluff. Horseback, K-9 units and state police taking to the skies hoping to cover more ground and capture Buffington. Authorities have also started tagging homes and buildings to avoid any confusion during the search.
"Just to let them know that we've been there if they weren't home or if it's a building where we have not been before we're putting it on there so the next person who comes along knows that it's a place we've already cleared," added Wilson.
