Deadline approaches for signatures on hemp and cannibis amendment

VAN BUREN COUNTY - The man who is spearheading the effort to legalize marijuana in Arkansas says he's urging people to get their signed petitions in the mail to him early this week - because those signatures are due at the Secretary of State's office on Monday, July 7th. Robert Reed says he and other citizens will be collecting signatures right up until Monday's deadline, and that he has no idea if there are enough signatures to place the Arkansas Hemp and Cannabis Amendment on the November ballot. The amendment would allow the cultivation, distribution, sale, possession and use of marijuana - and would allow state government to regulate it, but not prohibit it. Over 78,000 verified voter signatures are needed to place the amendment on the ballot.
