Districts Announce Weather-Related School Closings

Some central Arkansas school districts are canceling classes Wednesday, in advance of a major winter storm system that's expected to bring accumulations of 4-8 inches across much of the state.

Late Tuesday morning, both the Benton and Bryant school districts announced they would be closed on Wednesday. Announcements of widespread closures are expected to continue throughout the day as forecasters update potential snowfall totals.{}{}{}

Drivers are being warned to expect deteriorating conditions starting early Wednesday morning across northwest sections of the state, then across central and southern Arkansas during the daytime hours Wednesday. {}The snow is expected to taper off from the west Wednesday evening into early Thursday morning, but Arctic high-pressure will settle into the region Thursday, keeping temperatures below freezing through Friday morning. Wind chills could drop below zero across northwest section of the state on Thursday morning, with wind chills in the single-digits further south across the rest of the area.
