Don't Get Hooked: Publicpages.com
LITTLE ROCK (KATV) -
Complaints against an Internet phone directory business that may be head quartered in Bentonville are on the rise.
We told you about this suspected scam two months ago hoping that things would get better.
Instead things have gotten worse. So the Better Business Bureau wants to warn you again so that business owners...don't get hooked.
Publicpages.com claims to be a lot of things: an Internet directory service. A way to help your business maximize customer exposure. A way to reach potential customers nationwide.
Publicpages.com may also call and claim your business owes anywhere from $500.00 to $3,000.00.
"The complaints that we are getting are that people are alleging they are asked on the phone a lot of yes or no questions and then they are told that they agreed to certain verbal contract conditions," says Mike Rohrer with the Arkansas Better Business Bureau. "And when they are played back this tape it is kind of pieced together. So that is the allegations we are hearing."
The BBB advises business owners to educate employees about such scams, have one designated employee who handles all invoices, not to trust Caller ID, demand an invoice for any alleged bills and to just hang up on suspected scammers.
During the past month the Arkansas Better Business Bureau has received 52 complaints from businesses in 24 states about publicpages.com.
