Traffic backed up for nearly two hours of the morning commute after electric power lines fell across a major central Arkansas highway.
Arkansas State Police received calls from motorists just before 8 a.m. Wednesday reporting downed power lines across the northbound and southbound lanes of U.S. Highway 67/167 in Sherwood.
ASP is investigating the matter, but they suspect a dump truck driven by Dennie Apple was moving with the bed of the truck in an extended position above the cab, causing the bed to rip the electrical lines from four utility poles.
Traffic along the six-lane highway was blocked for approximately ninety minutes while Entergy crews removed the cables and secured poles damaged by the truck.
While at least one vehicle was struck by a power line, there are no reports of injuries.
