      Environmental agency director announces retirement

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality Director Teresa Marks is retiring from the post this fall.

Marks on Wednesday announced she's retiring on Sept. 30, leaving a post she's held since she was appointed by Gov. Mike Beebe in 2007. Ryan Benefield, ADEQ's deputy director, will serve as interim director for the remainder of Beebe's term, which ends in January.

Before being appointed head of ADEQ, Marks served in the attorney general's office. Marks says she looks forward to traveling with her husband this fall before deciding on her next career step.

Beebe praised Marks as someone who has spent her life providing dedicated service to Arkansas.
