CONWAY, Ark. (AP) - An internal investigation at the Faulkner County Sheriff's Office found that last month's escape of three inmates could have been prevented.
That's according to documents obtained by the Log Cabin Democrat (http://bit.ly/1bhgU5J ). In a memorandum, Capt. Lloyd Vincent said three detention officers failed to comply with multiple policies, including periodic facility walk-throughs.
The documents said the detention staff didn't know three inmates had escaped Aug. 17 until it was contacted by Conway police. Three officers have since been fired.
Authorities say inmates Jonathan Jackson, Joel Vermillion and Stacy Wilson escaped through a fence in the jail's recreation yard and then stole a car from a business near the jail. They were all recaptured within a few days.
