Facebook reveals details of NSA data requests

Facebook and Microsoft representatives say national security officials have given them permission to make new revelations about how they secretly turned over user data to the government.

Facebook says the government made between 9,000 and 10,000 requests targeting up to 19,000 accounts in the second half of last year.

A Facebook attorney says the requests included assistance finding missing children, tracking of federal fugitives, local crimes and even terrorist threats.

Facebook says a tiny fraction of its more than one billion users were affected.
