Family says man out on bond could flee

(KATV)-Ernesto Anaya entered a North Little Rock courtroom Wednesday and received a $50,000 bond. On May 13, Anaya allegedly fled from police after reportedly shooting his wife in the chest in their home. Three days later, he turned himself in, but her family says now that he's out on bond, he could flee again. "He did at first flee and if he could have, I think he would have gone to Mexico. But now being on bond, being out without police looking for him, it's very possible," said Anaya's nephew, David Gutierrez. An attorney for Ernesto says he is not a danger. "Mr. Anaya is not a danger to himself or anyone else for that matter and needs to get out to run his business," said attorney Bill James. Ernesto and Evangelia are in a divorce battle over local restaurant Las Delicias Mexican Restaurant, according to family and police reports. Evangelina had just gotten an order of protection against him. Currently Evangelina is in the hospital with the bullet still lodged in her spine. She told her family via voice box that she can't feel anything below her chest. According to the family, Evangelina is terrified of Ernesto getting out. Charges against Anaya could be upgraded, as the family waits and hopes she improves. Ernesto is being charged with first degree domestic battery, but investigators could change that to attempted murder. "Him having been released is insane to me," Gutierrez said.
