Feds halt plan to build to new bridge over Arkansas River
By Scott Inman
The Federal Highway Administration has halted a $450,000,000 bridge building project in Little Rock. The agency wants engineers to look at ways to ease congestion on the Interstate 30 corridor, over the Arkansas River, from more than just a structural standpoint. The FHA's Arkansas administrator said a conclusion that building a new bridge would be more cost effective was premature. It could now take 6 to 9 months for officials to decide whether to replace or rehabilitate the existing bridge.
