Five-year-old boy attacked by grandmother's four dogs
NORTH LITTLE ROCK (KATV) - A 5-year-old boy is in the hospital after his grandmother's four dogs attacked him Friday morning.
The 5-year-old boy at Arkansas Children's Hospital with part of his ear torn open and a deep cut to his eye. But Shell Franklin, a resident in the neighborhood, says with so many dogs running loose, this was bound to happen.
"They were getting the dogs off the little boy because the dogs wouldn't let the little boy go," said Franklin.
Franklin said she heard horrible screams coming out of her neighbor's front yard around nine Friday morning.
"We heard a lot of screaming. We thought it was a fight," she said.
It was when she looked into the yard that she noticed it was much worse than a fight. It was an attack--four dogs on a five-year-old boy who didn't stand a chance.
"I saw some dogs attacking a baby," she said. "Eating the mess out of that poor baby."
The dogs, a Rottweiler, a Pit Bull, a Hound and Rottweiller-Pitt Bill mix, were biting the boy in the face and chest.
"The dogs ate him up," said Franklin. "The woman ran out the gate with the little boy in her hand and there was blood rushing down his face."
Frederick Gooley, with Pulaski County Animal Control, says the dogs met the boy for the first time the day of the attack.
"Some of them, they are very protective of their property," said Gooley. "The grandmother said it was the first time the boy had been there."
The reason behind the attack is unknown but neighbors say it's not important.
"It's sad that you can't let your kids outside because of these dogs over here," said Franklin.
The grandmother has not been cited yet. The dogs will be quarantined and no decision has been made as far whether they will be euthanized.
