FORT SMITH, Ark. (AP) - Police in Fort Smith have arrested a man for allegedly making two separate calls to 911 in which he falsely claimed an undercover officer was down.
Officials said Tuesday that 33-year-old Marshall Dewayne Donovan made the first call on Sept. 17, but investigators couldn't run down the cellular call's origin.
On Feb. 27, police got another 911 call from a cell phone. Both calls said a police officer who was working undercover or was off-duty had been either shot or stabbed.
No officer was injured.
Police say Donovan was arrested April 15 on outstanding warrants for automobile burglaries. Investigators allege that Donovan made the bogus calls to distract officers and keep them away from his location.Copyright 2013 The Associated Press. All rights reserved.
