HELENA-WEST HELENA (Times-Herald) - Medical personnel with the United States Army, Navy and Air Force Reserves will be offering free medical services for residents of several Delta counties, including St. Francis County, starting Tuesday.
Delta Medical 2013 will be held at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences East, located at 1393 Highway 242 South, in Helena-West Helena.
Medical services provided will include screenings, non-emergency medical treatment, dental exams including extractions and fillings, minor lab tests, optometry exams, free glasses, prescription assistance services and education information.
The services will be offered at the site from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m., Tuesday, July 16, though Thursday, July 25. On Sunday, July 21, services will be offered from noon to 4 p.m.
Services will be provided to people ages 2 and older.
Becky Hall, UAMS East Center Director, spoke about the event.
"This year our central site is in Clarksdale, Miss., and we are the only site here in Arkansas," said Hall. "These services are free, and done by the Army, Navy and Air Force Reserves as training. While they are helping our residents, the residents are helping them train."
Hall appointments are not needed, and all of the services will be available to people as the services are needed.
"There isn't an income requirement on the services either," said Hall. "Anyone wanting to be seen can stop by no matter how much money they have."
A free spay and neuter clinic, and free rabies vaccines, for animals will also be included in the effort. The clinic will be held at the St. John's Episcopal Church, 625 Pecan, in Helena-West Helena. This service is offered on the same dates at Delta Medical, but appointments are required.
