GARLAND COUNTY (KATV) - The inmate who escaped from Garland County Jail nearly a full month ago was arrested in Florida Thursday night.
Derrick Estell and Tamara Upshaw were arrested at a Santa Rosa County residence around 11:00 p.m., ending a search by the Garland County Sheriff's Office, FBI and US Marshal's fugitive task force.
Garland County investigators were able to pinpoint their location thanks to tips and interviews. They notified authorities in Florida and Estell and Upshaw were arrested within a few hours.
Estell originally escaped Garland County custody July 28 with help from Upshaw and others after returning from the Arkansas Department of Corrections for a court appearance. Two other individuals - including Estell's mother - were also taken into custody for their involvement in the escape and are awaiting court hearings.
Estell was originally in custody for a string of robberies from Hot Springs to Missouri.
More arrests could be made as the investigation is still open.
Garland County authorities will hold a press conference today at 1:00. KATV's Katherina Yancy will be at that press conference and will update this story with more information as it becomes available.
