Evacuations end at UA following gas line rupture
FAYETTEVILLE (AP) - The University of Arkansas says evacuations at its Fayetteville campus have ended after a leak was stopped following a gas line rupture.
The school said an emergency crew stopped the leak at about 12:10 p.m. Wednesday. The university says the air quality in the area was tested and found safe, and an all-clear was issued, ending the evacuations.
The school says a construction crew ruptured a gas line near the Hillside Auditorium at about 10:50 a.m.
University spokesman Steve Voorhies said there aren't any reported injuries.
The university says crews were working to restore gas service to many of the buildings on campus.
An area south of Dickson Street, west of Harmon Avenue, north of Fairview Street and east of Garland Avenue was evacuated as a precaution.Copyright 2013 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten or redistributed.
