GOP lawmaker compares Ark. Gov, AG to Nazis

LITTLE ROCK (AP) - A Republican legislator under fire for writing that slavery may have been a "blessing in disguise" is comparing Arkansas' top Democrats to Nazis for criticizing him and two other GOP candidates for similarly controversial comments.

State Rep. Jon Hubbard wrote a letter published by The Jonesboro Sun Thursday accusing Gov. Mike Beebe and Attorney General Dustin McDaniel of tactics that he compared to "Nazi-style political intimidation." Democrats and Republicans have criticized the writings by Hubbard, state Rep. Loy Mauch and House candidate Charlie Fuqua.

Hubbard did not immediately return a call Thursday morning.

Beebe told reporters Thursday that he thought Hubbard's letter was inappropriate, and said the lawmaker is trying to blame others for problems he created with his own writings.
