Gospel industry remembers veteran Donna Creer
LITTLE ROCK (KATV) -An Arkansas Gospel music legend and her husband are dead after a fire broke out in their Little Rock home. The bodies of Donna and Donald Creer were found early Wednesday morning after what investigators are describing as a suspicious fire.
Long time friend and radio co-host, Rev. Thomas "JC Loves" Clarence, says this community and the Gospel industry have lost a dear friend.
She's described as a mover and shaker in the Gospel industry, a woman of God. Donna Creer, 57, and her husband, 51, died after a suspicious fire started around 3 a.m.
"The reaction was shock and of course deep, deep hurt," said JC, who said he owes a lot to Donna. "Donna introduced me and my wife and we've been married twenty years."
But he says so does the world of Gospel. The well-known Gospel radio host and Broadcaster's Hall of Famer also left her mark in the ever-changing industry, which mourned her death Wednesday.
"Trying to keep Gospel music from being marginalized and Gospel music to be brought forth into the mainstream," said JC.
But as he tries to make sense of her death, he says what he'll miss the most about his long time co-host and friend is her kind spirit.
"When people would call and make their requests I'd say 'O.K,' and I'd hand up, but before I could hang up she would always say 'Thanks for calling,'" he said. "One time I asked her, 'Why do you do that?,' she said, 'I appreciate people, they don't have to listen, and we appreciate them,' and that's the kind of person she was."
Donna was diagnosed with stage four cancer last Thursday. Police are still investigating what caused the fire.
