It's a special anniversary for Baptist Health, celebrating 10 years of providing a valuable service to low incomenew--mothers.
Francis Bodden of Benton gave birth to her son, Jacob, in April. She says it would have been very difficult to give him all he needs without the help of Heaven's Loft.
"They helped me all through my pregnancy," Bodden says. "They told me to come on Wednesdays and they would take my blood pressure. If I had any concerns, the nurses were there to talk with me."
The program--a joint service between Baptist and the Junior League of North Little Rock--provides two major services to low-income expectant mothers. First, professional guidance from nurses to ensure a healthy delivery.
"We do screen for problems through blood pressure screening and blood sugar screenings," says Jenny Stanfield of Heaven's Loft. "We try, also, if we feel like they haven't seen a doctor and need to see a doctor, certainly we refer them to a good medical source."
The second part of the program? Financial help in the form of vouchers they can redeem at a store full of baby products and clothing.
"We really want to be available to all the community," Stanfield says. "And, help moms who are in need during their pregnancy and post-partum period."
