Pine Bluff - HYPE (Helping Young People Excel), a Pine Bluff youth mentorship program, will be hosting a HYPE Summer Palooza and Youth Crime Prevention Summit on Saturday, June 22 from 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.
Activities will include a panel discussion which is to be led by local mayor, Debbie Hollingsworth. Additional panelists will include personnel from the Jefferson County Sheriff's Dept, Police Department and the Juvenile Justice Center.
A mini-fair will also be provided for fun family entertainment. Special appearances will be made by McGruff the Crime Dog, Spongebob, the PB Fire Dept, and the Pine Bluff Regional Chamber of Commerce. Grilled burgers and hotdogs will be served.
All activities are free and open to the public. We are most excited about this very special event because it will allow the community an opportunity to become informed on the steps the city has taken to enhance the quality of life for our youth.
HYPE is a project of HYPE Communities, Inc. Executive Director, Tomekia Moore, says, "We have hosted a series of summits throughout this year that focus on issues that are relevant to today's youth. Our program will expand at the start of the upcoming school year to include tutoring, leadership and professional development, community awareness programs, and one-on-one mentorship opportunities."
HYPE was recently endorsed by Watson Chapel School District Superintendent, Dr. Danny Hazelwood, and they are currently working out the details of providing the program to the district's students.
